Assuming an american city with a square grid. Turning right (pizza place) isn't north. Turning left isn't. So there is only the possibility of staying on the road or making a 180. So just staying "NoRtH" seems to be pretty f*cking useless there.

All these people saying you can't know where North is without a compass, yes you can! If you know the city you are driving in you will know where North is. If you don't know you can even use the sun to guess. But as a method of giving directions in a car it's only usefull in some occasions...

Somehow, 80/90% of the time I instictively know where north/south/west/east is. Don't know why though. Even in unfamiliar places (sorry for grammar mistakes, non native english speaker)

That reminds me, when I use google maps I always rotate the map so I won't confuse directions, and once my friend saw it and was like 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING! HOW WILL YOU KNOW WHERE IS NORTH' XDD

I thought it's pretty common to use north south east west as direction(at places where you been before so you know which direction ur facing). Used it all the time and nobody really misunderstood. But apparently the comment section proves me wrong..... Saying left and right sometimes are just more confusing imo.
