A beautiful and informative biography

This is a beautifully written and illustrated biography of an incredible woman. The author skillfully presents the truths of Harriet’s difficult life without glossing over or minimizing the history. My five year old was fascinated, and I learned quite a bit too. I highly recommend this book!!

Interesting and informative book for school age children

After reading an overview book about Harriet Tubman, the 5year old and the adults in our household wanted to learn more. This book is much more thorough and is quite interesting. As it is geared toward slightly older readers, we are doing a chapter at a time for the 5 year old. I consider this a successful purchase.

A delightful biography about a young leader.

Any young reader willI enjoyed reading this book about a courageous young woman named Harriet Tubman. I feel adults can also learn some facts from reading this book. The author keep your attention by asking questions as you reading the story. The glossary also will help anyone look up answers easily if they miss a fact and need the information quickly. The book is a wonderful read for anyone.

Strong Woman, great intro to Harriet

These are the best books. My 8-year old and I can't get enough. With libraries closed, we are purchasing all of them.

Great for Your Young Reader

This book is not what I expected. I wanted biography-style info about Harriet Tubman to read to my children, but this book assumes the reader doesn’t even know what slavery is. This is not the case for our family, so I was disappointed in how the material was presented and organized - at first. But once I read through it, I came to appreciate how the author pulled together historical information at a children’s reading level and the illustrations keep a child’s attention. I recommend letting your child read out loud to your family, rather than reading it to them yourself, like I did. It will definitely spark good conversation and be a great history lesson for the whole family.

Engaging, real, and inspiring

I bought this because Harriet Tubman was a legit super hero and I was peeved they didn’t mention her during Black history month at my daughter’s school. I had to edit some of the language as it gives some descriptions of the physical abuse she endured while enslaved which can be a lot for little kids to hear. My daughter is 6 and was in awe of the bad-@ssery of Harriet’s life. I love how it pulls no punches on the story. It helped open up conversations on race and equality in today’s society as well. My daughter went to school after to tell everyone how awesome Harriet Tubman was, so mission complete.

Well written biography...poor binding

It's really too bad this book is bound so poorly. I bought it to read to my grandchildren because it is black history month. I made it to page eleven when the page simply came out as if it was stuffed in as an after-thought. As we progressed, more pages came out, all with a perfectly cut edge. The only remedy is to glue or tape them back in. My grandchildren love to read so this book is not going to last long. I would love a replacement, but I read another review saying their copy did the same thing. I would also like to purchase more from this author, but the poor binding tells me not to.

Great series!

My Level 2 reader loves these books (we have 4-5). The chapters are the perfect length to hold his interest and the drawings capture his attention. We also love the extras along the way and the quiz at the end. Great series!

Book pages falling out!

This book is not put together well! We did not read it immediately and now the return window has closed. Pages are just falling out. Some of them are not part of the binding. I turn a page and I end up with a separate page in my hand! It is so disappointing. You may want to wait for a new printing.

Great book

I got this book for my daughter and she is very engaged with it. She's learned a lot and continues to talk about it. Highly recommended for young readers.
