Little girl beaten to death during 'exorcism' ceremony

Sri Lanka: A 9-year-old girl was beaten repeatedly to death by her mother and shaman while performing a "demon chase" ritual in the town of Delgoda.

Sri Lankan police on March 1 said they had arrested two suspects related to the girl's death, including the exorcist magician and the baby's mother.

The court ordered the two suspects to be detained for the next trial on March 12.

Rohana said that the mage initially applied hot oil on the baby, then beat her repeatedly with a cane until the little girl passed out.

The mage regularly performs similar "exorcism" rituals in recent months.
